The name 'Republica de Venezuela' replaced 'Estados Unidos de Venezuela' on all coinage from 1953. Bolivar fractionals and multipules continued to be silver until 1964, at which point they became nickel in composition.

Shown is a 1973 ten bolivares, composition silver, minted in Ontario. The coin commemorates the original design of Simon Bolivar's portrait by Albert Barre. The obverse features the portait of Simon Bolivar inset into a convex coin surface. The reverse features the coat of arms, denomination, and date. Edge lettering: CENTENARIO DE LA EFIGIE DEL LIBERTADOR EN LA MONEDA.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.
