The name 'Republica de Venezuela' replaced 'Estados Unidos de Venezuela' on all coinage from 1953. Bolivar fractionals and multipules continued to be silver until 1964, at which point they became nickel in composition.

The coin shown is a 1964 5 centimos struck in Madrid for Venezuela; earlier versions from 1945-48 were very similar.

Recorded mintage: 40,000,000.

Specification: copper-nickel.
