Sincona sale 68, lot 5456
This specimen was lot 5456 in Sincona sale 68 (Zurich, October 2020), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$3,950 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Waadt/Vaud | Kanton, Französischer Taler mit waadtländischem Gegenstempel zu 39 Batzen o. J. (1830), Lausanne. Gegenstempel auf einem französischen Ecu von 1764 T, Nantes. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (canton of Vaud, French thaler counterstamped with Vaudois arms to pass as 39 batzen. Rare, Good very fine.)"
Altho the Bernese counterstamps on French ecus are well documented, this rare counterstamp is not mentioned in the SCWC.
