United States 2014-D quarter KM-570
In 2008, the mint completed its series of fifty state quarters to near-universal acclaim (some of the designs can only be described as inept). In 2009, the program was extended a year to include the territories and possessions while the mint debated what to do next. Congress, eager to promote tourism in home districts, was not eager to return to the drab eagle reverse, so, after much discussion, a series called America the Beautiful was introduced wherein each state selected a national park or monument within her boundaries to be featured. Florida selected the Everglades and in 2014, this handsome avian artifact was circulated. Other quarters for 2014 included the Great Smoky Mountains, Shenandoah, Arches and the Great Sand Dunes of Colorado.
