Sweden 1730 quarter ducat rev H3029-30988.jpg

This specimen was lot 30988 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frederick I gold 1/4 Ducat 1730, AU Details (Repaired) NGC. Fully struck with bold bust details, scraped in the right obverse field and creased across the center. Despite the problems this lustrous example is very collectable. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." This coin with its trifling mintage is not even listed as rare in the SCWC, demonstrating how underrated the minors are compared to the well-studied riksdalers. The last quarter ducat was issued in 1755.

Recorded mintage: 1,696.

Specification: 0.87 g, .976 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM 417, Fr-60.
