Straits Settlements 1873 cent

This specimen was lot 5035 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $322 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "Straits Settlements. Cent, 1873. Victoria. NGC graded AU-55 Brown." This type was struck in considerable numbers 1872-83 and was issued in bronze (KM 9a) 1884-86. A reeded edge was added for 1887-1901 (KM 16). It is common in worn condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
Specification: 9.3 g, copper, 28.8 mm diameter, plain edge.
