This specimen was lot 209 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 400 euro (about US$634 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1798. Madrid. MF. 8 reales. Parte de brillo original. Rara. MBC+/EBC-. (Eight reales of 1798, Madrid mint. Lustrous, rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"This type is recorded in the SCWC from Madrid for 1788-1808. All are scarce compared to the enormous output of the Latin American mints. The bust type was introduced to the Spanish mints in 1772.
