Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 198
This specimen was lot 198 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €8,400 (about US$11,086 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1676/5. Carlos II. Barcelona. 4 escudos. Todos los datos perfectos. Mínimas marquitas. Bella. Brillo original. Precioso color. Muy rara y más así. Sólo hemos tenido otros 2 ejemplares. EBC+. (kingdom of Spain, Charles II, four escudos, Barcelona mint. All the data is clear, minimal marks, handsome, original luster, beautiful color, very rare thus, we know of two other examples. Choice very fine.)"
This rare cob was struck at Barcelona in 1676, 1679, 1684, 1697 and 1699. None are known with assayer's initials.
