This type was introduced in 1982. It is still in production as of 2012, the last date listed in the SCWC. With US$1 = 1159 won (as of April 2019), this coin has a face value of 43¢. The obverse features the Manchurian or red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis). Despite being endangered, it is revered as a symbol of good luck in Japan, Korea and China.

Recorded mintage: 70,000,000.

Specification: 7.7 g, copper-nickel, 26.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
