South Africa 1948 farthing
This specimen was part of lot 29122 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description noted, "George VI Proof Set 1948, the nine coin set featuring the Farthing through the 5 Shillings. A choice set with rich toning on the silver types. Sold in the original mint case." The farthing was struck in South Africa 1923-60. This type, struck 1948-50, is common in all grades.
Recorded mintage: 2,415,000 plus 1,120 proofs.
