South Africa 1948 1/2 penny
This specimen was part of lot 29122 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description noted, "George VI Proof Set 1948, the nine coin set featuring the Farthing through the 5 Shillings. A choice set with rich toning on the silver types. Sold in the original mint case." The half penny was struck in South Africa 1923-60. This type struck 1948-52 is common in all grades.
Recorded mintage: 685,000 plus 1,120 proofs (lowest mintage date).
