"Sachsen-Meiningen, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1866-1914 3 Mark 1915. München Auf seinen Tod. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, George II (1866-1914), three mark of 1915, on the death of the duke, choice extremely fine.)"The second specimen was lot 22732 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $312. The catalog description noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Meiningen. 3 Mark, 1915. NGC MS-66. Commemorating the death of Georg II. Boldly struck with frosty luster, brilliant and quite attractive." This three mark is the last issue from this state. It is accompanied by a silver two mark. The last duke, Bernhard III, abdicated in the maelstrom of the collapse of the Wilhelmine regime in 1918.
