Sarawak 1941H cent rev Heritage 3010-21831.jpg

Sarawak, now a part of Malaysia, was once ruled by a dynasty of white rajahs ending with Charles V. Brooke (ruled 1917-46). The region was devastated by Japanese occupation during World War Two, so the rajah abdicated in favor of direct British rule. This type was struck 1927-41 for the rajah at the Heaton mint in England. The 1941 is rare as the ship carrying the shipment of coins to the colony was sunk by the Japanese.

Recorded mintage: 3,000,000 (the SCWC estimates 50 survive).

Specification: bronze, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM 18.
