In 1910, Portugal, having ousted her king, dropped the réis and adopted the escudo, divided into 100 centavos. This type was struck in 1914 to honor the revolution of 1910. The escudo was retired in 1999 when Portugal joined the euro.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: 25 g, .835 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.
