This specimen was lot 25255 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $1,782.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1772-JM, XF45 NGC, nicely toned with well-struck features, an attractive and original example of this scarce early date." This coin was minted 1772-89; later issues of this type (1785-89) were struck in gold lowered to .875 fine.
