1853-C Half Eagle; Mintage: 65,571
This date, like the 1850-C, is known with "Strong" and "Weak" mintmark variieties, with the "Strong" mintmark variety being much more sought after, and commanding a premium, than the "Weak" variety. Mintages dropped over 7,000 from the previous year, yet remaining survivors number very closely to the 1852-C. This example exhibits lustrous, original orange-gold surfaces.
