This specimen is from a type struck 1946-56 for Nicaragua, and was superseded by a very similar design issued 1963-65 with different edge lettering. All dates are common. In 1967, the brutal and corrupt Luis Somoza died of a heart attack and was succeeded by his brutal, corrupt and incompetent brother, Anastasio, with baleful consequences for Nicaragua.
Recorded mintage: 4,000,000.
