Mozambique 1953 50 centavos
This issue, minted in Lisbon for the Portuguese colony of Mozambique, is from a type issued 1953 and 19587 in fairly large numbers. This date is somewhat scarce. It is accompanied by a bronze one escudo and copper-nickel 2½ escudos and silver five and ten escudos. In the 1960's, nationalists in Mozambique began their agitation for independence, triggering a multifactional war that continued after the Portuguese withdrew in 1975.
