This one year type represents the inauguration of modern Mozambican coinage, the first issue for the colony since the 1850's. Issued along with this piece were a five escudos (KM 62, silver), 2.5 escudos (KM 61, silver), one escudo (KM 66, bronze), ten escudos (KM 67, silver), twenty centavos (KM 64, bronze) and ten centavos (KM 63, bronze). All are expensive in nice condition. The next issue of fifty centavos was in 1945.

Recorded mintage: 2,500,000.

Specification: 4.5 g, copper-nickel, 23 mm diameter.
