Mozambique 1936 10 escudos
This specimen was lot 781 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (New York, December 2009), where it sold for $57.50. The catalog description noted, "MOZAMBIQUE. 10 Escudos, 1936. Colonial Arms containing Armillary Sphere. Rv. Portuguese Arms on Cross of Christ. Cleaned at one time. Uncirculated." This one year type represents the inauguration of modern Mozambican coinage, the first issue for the colony since the 1850's. Issued along with this piece were a five escudos (KM 62, silver), 2.5 escudos (KM 61, silver), one escudo (KM 66, bronze), fifty centavos (KM 65, copper-nickel), twenty centavos (KM 64, bronze) and ten centavos (KM 63, bronze). All are expensive in nice condition.
