This specimen was lot 21060 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "MOZAMBIQUE. Mozambique - Brazil. 600 Reis, ND (1760). Governor Pedro de Saldanha de Albuquerque. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield; Countermark: EF Details. Issued by decree of 1760. Incuse "M" countermark applied to he obverse of a 1755-R Brazil 600 Reis J Series of Jose. VERY RARE host coin and denomination, one of only five confirmed survivors for this host type. Countermark deeply applied centered at the base of the "J" just about the date. Rich attractive slate patina with a lovely iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light. From the Kyle Ponterio Collection." The SCWC lists this countermark only on various eight reales. The host coin is a rare date.
