Montenegro 1910 10 perpera Fr-6
This specimen was lot 33523 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $480. The catalog description noted, "Nicholas I gold 10 Perpera 1910 MS62 NGC. Golden Jubilee. Tangerine tones along the legends make this an intriguing example." After maintaining her independence for centuries against the Turks, Montenegro was occupied by the Austrians during World War One and then the Serbs and more or less forcibly incorporated into Yugoslavia, Nicolas losing his throne in the process. The coinage runs 1906-14. This one year type commemorating the fiftieth year of Nicolas' reign is based not on the French ten francs but on the Austria corona, which is slightly heavier. Twenty and hundred perpera also exist.
Recorded mintage: 35,003.
Specification: 3.39 g, .900 fine gold.
