Mexico 1884-Ho M 10 centavos
This specimen is a fairly common date of a series struck 1874-93 at the Hermosillo mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. Assayer A is also recorded for the year and is quite a bit scarcer. This specimen was lot 8949 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Hermosillo. 10 Centavos, 1884-HoM. NGC MS-64."
Specification: 2.71 g, .903 fine silver, .078 troy oz ASW.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
