The first specimen was lot 6491 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1883/2-MoM. VERY SCARCE. Several small scratches, dipped, lustrous. EXTREMELY FINE." The second specimen was lot 9208 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $172.50. The catalog description[2] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1883/2-MoM. Very scarce date. A few minor edge marks, toned. VERY FINE.” The Mexico City mint struck fifty centavos 1869-87, with a rare issue of 1888. While most dates are common for this mint, the 1883/2 (no regular date is listed) is not.

Recorded mintage: 4,000.

Specification: 13.53 g, .903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
