Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Mexico City is scarce, priced about triple a common Guanajuato issue. This specimen was lot 9198 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1872/1-MoM. Sharply struck, lightly toned. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines.”

Specification: 13.54 g, .903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 60,000.
