This specimen was lot 21571 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1853/1C-CE, AU53 NGC, lightly toned and lustrous, very little wear evident. The 3/1 overdate is bold. From the Don Benito Collection of Hispanic Gold." The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available.
