Mexico 1853-Pi MC real

This specimen was lot 23408 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1853-PiMC. NGC MS-64. Showcasing full flashy luster with light speckled toning. An attractive near-Gem example." This type was struck at San Luis Potosi in 1831 and 1837-62. Both 1853 and the overdate 1853/1 are noted as common.
