Mexico 1849-Go PF escudo

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72601

This specimen was lot 72601 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $235. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1849-GoPF. NGC EXTREMELY FINE-45." This type was struck at the Guanajuato mint 1845-62; the SCWC prices this date only 75% higher than a common Mexico City issue but it is very scarce. Long^[2] noted in his census only half as many one escudos from this mint as half escudos.
