Mexico 1849-GC MP 1/2 real
This specimen was lot 73218 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1849-GC MP. Guadalupe y Calvo Mint. NGC EF-45. A rather RARE date, this mildly handled minor is exceeded in the NGC census by just one example. A great opportunity for a difficult and highly desired issue." This date was struck at the Guadalupe y Calvo mint in 1846. This mint struck silver and gold coins 1844-52, with half reals recorded for 1844-51. The issues of Guadalupe y Calvo are the third rarest mint after Estado de Mexico and Hermosillo.
