Mexico 1798-Mo FM escudo

This specimen was lot 7133 in Ponterio sale 153 (Baltimore, March 2010), where it sold for $391. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1798-FM. Slightly weak strike. ICG AU-50." Assayer FM is known for the years 1784-1801. All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce but the escudos of Charles IV are among the more available types.
