The first specimen was lot 3 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $10,710. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 escudos, 1711J, ex-1715 Fleet. Good full cross, shield, oXMJ and date, well centered, the peripheries flat, matte XF+ with rich gold color all over. From the 1715 Fleet, with NGC label showing that designation (XF 45)." The second specimen was lot 239 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €215,000 (about US$283,736 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"1711. Felipe V. México. J. 8 escudos. Redonda. Tipo "Real". Procedente del tesoro de La Florida. Bellísima. Brillo original. Extraordinariamente rara. Sólo hemos tenido este ejemplar. S/C. (kingdom of Spain, Philip V, eight escudos of 1711, Mexico mint, round "royal" type, from La Florida treasure. Exquisite, original luster, extraordinarily rare, we know of only this example, uncirculated.)"
The SCWC lists this date without a price.

Specification: 27.07 g, .917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW, the first specimen 26.86 grams, the second specimen 26,73 g.
