Kempten in 1547, from Putzger's atlas of 1905
This specimen was lot 2667 in Sincona sale 57 (Zurich, May 2019), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$1,904 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Kempten, Stadt, 1/4 Taler 1622. Mit Hüftbild und Titel Ferdinands II. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Germany, city of Kempten, quarter thaler of 1622, with the bust and title of Ferdinand II. Very rare in this condition, Good extremely fine, Nice toning.)"
This rare type was accompanied by a 1/8 thaler, a half thaler and a thaler. The city was annexed to Bavaria in 1803.
