Áureo y Calicó sale 346, lot 1143
Kaufbeuren in 1547, between Kempten and Biberach, from Putzger's Atlas
This specimen was lot 1143 in Áureo y Calicó sale 346 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"1547. Carlos I. Kaufbeuren. 1 taler. Grieta en canto. Buen ejemplar. MBC+. (Germany, city of Kaufbeuren, thaler of 1547, struck in the name of Charles I. Planchet flaw on edge, nice example, choice very fine."
This obscure Swabian town is of no interest to numismatists except for a series of thalers (Dav-9344 thru -9355) struck 1540-52. These were struck nearly a century before its much larger neighbor, Augsburg, struck any thalers. The region is now part of Bavaria.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28,76 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-9352, KM-MB22, Ha. 2364 sim.
