This specimen was lot 24815 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Proof Half Quart ND (1841), PR66 BN NGC, exquisite quality and beautiful appearance, fully struck with deeply mirrored fields, and luxurious pinkish blue iridescence perfectly distributed on each side. A coiner's masterpiece, very rare in this condition. KM value is $1350. This wonderful specimen deserves to top that." This coin was part of a brief issue of circulating copper coinage comprising half, one and two quarts. Some proofs were struck for collectors 1860-61 and the coinage ceased until the colony fell into the clutches of the Popjoy mint in recent times.
