French Indochina 1900-A 2 sapeque

This specimen was lot 30966 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "French Colony bronze Proof Sapeque 1900-A PR64 Brown PCGS, Paris mint. Very rare with a tiny mintage of only 100 pieces. Noticeable original mint luster remains with surfaces displaying only minor marks." This type was struck 1887-89, 1892-1902 as a two sapeque, as can be seen by the Chinese character for "2" ("ニ") on the reverse. While the proofs are rare, the circulation issue is only somewhat scarce.
Recorded mintage: 2,657,000 plus 100 proofs.
