Jean Elsen sale 141, lot 1244
This specimen was lot 1244 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €1,350 (about US$1,789 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AV louis d'or juvénile à la tête laurée, 1665A, Paris. D/ T. laurée à d., à la longue chevelure couvrante. R/ Croix formée de huit L couronnés, cantonnée de quatre lis. Rare Nettoyé. Légères traces de monture. Très Beau à Superbe. Provient de notre vente 61, 18 mars 2000, 1633. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis, laureate juvenile bust of 1665, Paris mint. Obverse: laureate head right with long hair; reverse: cross formed of eight crowned "L's", cantonned with four lilies. Rare, cleaned, mount mark, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck 1662-68 at Paris. All louis d'or juvénile of this period are rare, probably because of the restrikings of the 1690's.
