This specimen was lot 4737 in Sincona sale 4 (Zurich, October 2011), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,729 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH Louis XIV. 1643-1715 Louis d’or à la mèche longue 1646, Paris. Belorbeertes, jugendliches Brustbild nach rechts, darunter die Jahreszahl. Rv. Vier gekrönte Doppel-L ins Kreuz gestellt, in den Winkeln Lilien. Winz. Schrötlingsf. Vorzüglich. (France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, Louis d’or à la mèche longue of 1646, Paris mint. Obverse: youthful laureate bust to right, date below; reverse: four crowned double L's arrayed in a cross, fleur-de-lys in between. Adjustment marks, extremely fine.)"
This louis d'or à la mèche longue is among the more available louis of Louis XIV, being struck 1646-59. This issue is priced[1] about 20% more than the commonest date (1651-A).
