The coin shown is a fifty dollar gold coin, dated 1958 (Ethiopian Era) and 1966 AD. On the obverse is a portrait of King Haile Selassie. The reverse has the crowned lion of Judah with Amharic script in exergue. The date is along the base and is written in a format particular to Ethiopia, with an extra digit denoting magnitude. The Gregorian date is listed below it. This coin was issued on the 75th Anniversary of Haile Selassie's birth, and fiftieth Jubilee of his reign.

This specimen was lot 20793 in Heritage sale 3004 (New York, January, 2009), where it brought $632.50. The catalog description reads: "Haile Selassie gold 50 Dollars 1966-NI, Proof 64 Ultra Cameo NGC, commemorative marking the 50th year of reign and his 75th birthday."

Recorded mintage: 15,000.
