The first specimen shown is from 1829 and one of a series of debased two reales struck 1828-34 while El Salvador was part of the Central American Republic. All provisional two reales of this type are very rare. This specimen was lot 16932 in Heritage sale 410 (Long Beach, June 2006), where it sold for $977.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 2 Reales 1829-RL, VF20 NGC, a very attractive example of this crude provisional type with full details on both sides. Legend: POR LA LIBERTAD SALVAD. Very scarce grade."

The second specimen was lot 9108 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $1495. The catalog description[2] noted, "EL SALVADOR. Provisional Coinage. 2 Reales, 1829-RL. Obverse: POR LA LIBERTAD SALVAD . Reverse reads: MONEDA PROVISIONAL . R.L. 1829 RARE date. Struck on a large planchet. Nice full legends on both sides with full denticles. Slightly uneven central strike accounting for the lack of detail in the denomination. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE."

The third specimen was lot 23763 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[3] noted, "Provisional 2 Reales 1829-RL, XF45 NGC, nicely struck details including the peripheral legends, lightly toned and very appealing. POR LA LIBERTAD SALVAD. Highly elusive coinage in this attractive grade."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.7 g, .903 silver, .136 troy oz ASW.
