The first specimen was lot 1026 in Goldberg sale 46 (Beverly Hills, May 2008), where it sold for $7,250. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Colombia - Republic. 8 Reales, 1821-BA-JF (Bogotá). Indian portrait type. Head of Indian left, wearing feathered headdress. Reverse: Pomegranate; value flanking. Good even strike. Fields with satiny to smooth luster. Light smokey tone, with a few hints of violet. Extremely Rare in high grade. This example ranks among the finest known. NGC graded MS-61. This coin was issued by the state of Cundinamarca, even though it says Republic of Colombia on the obverse. This occurred because the provinces of Colombia had not yet united to form the Republic of Greater Colombia, and individual states were still issuing their own coins. Independence was already a foregone conclusion, but details had not yet coalesced. This is one of the more common coins in lower grades, yet exceptionally rare in choice condition."
The second specimen was part of lot 44069 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[2] noted, "COLOMBIA. A pair of Nueva Granada 8 Reales marked with oval countermarks for Cundinamarca, both graded by PCGS. Included are 1820-JF. VG-10, C/M VF Detail; 1821-Ba-JF. F-12, C/M VF Detail. (Total: 2 pieces). From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck 1820-21 and was preceded by the similar "LIBERTAD AMERICANA" struck 1819-20 (see KM 78).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 23 g, .666 fine silver, .492 troy oz ASW; the first specimen: 23.05 grams.

Catalog reference: the first specimen: WR-8; Eliz-18; KM 6; Restrepo 157.4; the second specimen: KM 73, Restrepo 157.4r.
