Colombia SB818-44201r.jpg

This specimen was lot 44201 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $55. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Decimo, 1854. Bogota Mint. AU-55 (PCGS). Well struck with pervasive dark gray toning. An attractive example. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck 1853-58 and superseded a coin of the same weight but denominated "UN REAL" (KM 112). As the populace was used to eight reales in a peso, the previous coin must have caused confusion and irritation.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.5 g, .900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-115; Restrepo-186.3.
