Chile 1883 peso rev 600.jpg

The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1867-91 at Santiago, Chile. It is one of the most common pesos of South America but makes up for it by its handsome design of a condor holding the arms of Chile. Two overdates, 1883/8 and 1883/2, are noted for the year. The rare flat top 3 variety was actually struck in the 1920's and then remelted, leaving few survivors.

Recorded mintage: 1,397,000.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 142.1.
