The specimen shown was lot 2298 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 90 euros (about $149 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1788. Santiago. DA. 1/2 real. Escasa. BC (half real of 1788, Santiago mint; scarce, Fine.)
This type was issued from Santiago 1773-89 and is a very tough type.

Recorded mintage: 112,000.

Specification: 3.38 g, .896 fine silver, .098 troy oz ASW.
