Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 1483
This specimen was lot 1483 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €110 (about US$157 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Charles Quint (1506-1555), AR 4 patards (vlieger), 1537, Anvers. D/ Aigle impériale couronnée. R/ Ecu aux seize quartiers couronné, sur une croix de Bourgogne. Très Beau à Superbe. (duchy of Brabant, Charles V, 1506-55, silver four patards or vlieger of 1537, Antwerp mint. Obverse: crowned imperial eagle; reverse: crowned arms of 16 quarters over a Burgundian cross. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck until at least 1551. We note a very similar coin from Flanders called a vlieger.
