Kunker sale 264, lot 3559
This specimen was lot 3559 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,909 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BADEN-DURLACH, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM Ludwig, 1818-1830. 5 Taler zu 500 Kreuzer 1830. GOLD. Nur 1.788 Exemplare geprägt. Attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Baden, Louis, 1818-30, five thaler of 1830. Only 1,788 example struck, attractive extremely fine.)"
This ill-advised issue was intended to compete with Prussian friedrichs d'or and other gold five thalers but was about 14% too light. It was abandoned after one year and the production of ducats resumed.

Recorded mintage: 1,788.

Specification: 5.73 g, .903 fine gold, .194 troy oz AGW, this specimen 5.73 g.

Catalog reference: KM 196, Divo/S. 7; Fr-151; Schl. 19.
