The name 'Republica de [[Venezuela]]' replaced 'Estados Unidos de Venezuela' on all coinage from 1953. Bolivar fractionals and multipules continued to be silver until 1964, at which point they became nickel in composition.

Shown is a 1960 two bolivares, composition silver, minted in Paris. The obverse features the portait of Simon Bolivar, recognized as liberator of the Venezuelans from rule by the Spanish. The portrait was designed by Albert Barre in Paris. The reverse features the coat of arms, denomination, and date.
