United States 2015D NC quarter rev DSLR.jpg

In 2008, the mint completed its series of fifty state quarters to near-universal acclaim (some of the designs can only be described as inept). In 2009, the program was extended a year to include the territories and possessions while the mint debated what to do next. Congress, eager to promote tourism in home districts, was not eager to return to the drab eagle reverse, so, after much discussion, a series called America the Beautiful was introduced wherein each state selected a national park or monument within her boundaries to be featured. North Carolina selected the Blue Ridge Parkway and in 2015, this invitation to a road trip was circulated. Other quarters for 2015 included the Homestead National Monument, Kisatchie National Forest, Bombay Hook NWR and Saratoga National Historical Park.

Recorded mintage: 505,200,000.

Specification: 5.67 g, copper-nickel clad copper, reeded edge, 24.3 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 599.
