Áureo y Calicó sale 345, lot 478
This specimen was lot 478 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €135 (about US$178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1740. Felipe V. Madrid. JF. 2 reales. Último año de acuñación de este valor en Madrid. Bien centrada. Buen ejemplar. Escasa y más así. EBC-. (kingdom of Spain, Philip V, two reales of 1740, Madrid mint. Last year of mintage of this denomination at Madrid. Well centered, nice example, scarce thus, about very fine.)"
This type was struck at Madrid 1716-40. Altho Guatemala, Mexico, Lima and Potosi all struck two reales in 1740, Mexico was the only other mint to mill them. The next two reales would leave Madrid in 1757.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, this specimen 5,69 g.
