Aureo sale 246, lot 800
This specimen was lot 800 in Aureo y Calicó sale 246 (Barcelona, September 2012), where it sold for 900 € (about $1,366 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"Carlos IV (1788-1808). 1797. Carlos IV. Lima. JI. 8 escudos. Hojas en reverso. Escasa. MBC-/MBC. (Charles IV (1788-1808), eight escudos of 1797, Lima mint, small flaws on reverse, about very fine.)"
This coin was minted 1792-1808 and is the most common Peruvian colonial eight escudos. Assayer IJ is also recorded for 1797 and may be the same pair of officials.

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
