This specimen was lot 25173 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Nicholas I gold 20 Perpera 1910, AU50 NGC, lightly toned with considerable mint luster, struck for the 50th anniversary of reign." After maintaining her independence for centuries against the Turks, Montenegro was occupied by the Austrians during World War One and then the Serbs and more or less forcibly incorporated into Yugoslavia, Nicolas losing his throne in the process. The coinage runs 1906-14. This one year type commemorating the fiftieth year of Nicolas' reign is based not on the French twenty francs but on the Austria corona, which is slightly heavier.
